For me personally, I wouldn’t feel like I’d ‘completed’ Christmas if I hadn’t watched my festive film favourites across the season. There are certain movies I have to watch every Christmas, and I’ve let you in on them below.

10 Movies I Have To Watch Every Christmas
The Snowman (1982)
Although it’s just 27-minutes in length, The Snowman packs in one mesmerising adventure within its short animation.
It’s an exciting yet emotional rollercoaster and we all know and adore the classic theme song. The incredible illustrations, brought to life by the animation, allow the characters to take us on their journey with them, and I think that is what makes it so magical and one of the movies I have to watch every Christmas.
I’m also a big fan of Raymond Briggs’ Father Christmas, too, and often try to watch that each year.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)
I vividly remember going to see Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone when it was released in cinemas back in 2001. I was just 11 years old and to say excited would be the understatement of the century.
It was, I think, released a month before Christmas and even though I’d stopped believing in Father Christmas long before that point, seeing my favourite book come to life on the big screen had me believing in magic again.
Ever since I’ve taken to watching the film(s) around Christmas as it never fails to give me those childhood Christmas feels all over again.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971)
It might not be a conventional Christmas film but it contains shed-loads of chocolate and that’s enough of a festive connection for me.
My Dad gifted me this on VHS back in 1998 and it’s been on the list of movies I have to watch every Christmas, since.
Oliver! (1968)
Oliver! the musical, is a cinematic masterpiece and full of spectacular choreography and the most incredible songs to sing-along to.
It’s my partner’s favourite childhood film and so we pop it on, normally on Christmas Day morning during breakfast and presents and warble away.
Batman Returns (1992)
Gotham City covered in snow and dressed up like an O.T.T. gothic winter wonderland? Yes please!
Featuring notorious villains Catwoman and The Penguin, Batman Returns is my favourite alternative Christmas film and another one of the movies I have to watch every Christmas.
Santa Claus (1994)
There’s nothing more Christmassy than kicking back on a winter’s day at home with a mug of hot chocolate and the Santa Claus movie on the television.
I first watched this in 1998 as it was another VHS my Dad bought me. Not only did it resonate with me because my parents were recently separated, but the idea that anyone could become Father Christmas was such an impressive thought for me. Hence it gets put on each year for a bit of nostalgic bliss.
Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out (1989)
The first installment in the Wallace & Gromit animations, A Grand Day Out is so innocently wonderful and another one of the short movies I have to watch every Christmas. I think this is mainly because it was always on T.V. on Christmas Day when I was growing up – I just fell in love with the pair.
The Night Before (2015)
I’m always up for a laugh at Christmas and The Night Before never fails to have me in fits of giggles. It’s a great watch if you want an outrageous comedy pick-me-up and it never gets stale for me as I only ever watch it at Christmas.
Chicken Run (2000)
I love Chicken Run crazy amounts. Not least because it’s another Nick Park and Aardman Animation classic film, but because it is such a wonderful story.
I’m not sure why, but this is one of the movies I have to watch every Christmas. Maybe it’s the plasticine connection?
The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)
A classic Dickens’ Christmas tale retold using The Muppets? Who couldn’t love that! With Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, every Christmas I watch this film and I’m always pleasantly reminded how good it is considering the moral nature of the tale and the fact that they are, well, Muppets!
It’s brilliant and has some fab musical numbers in it, too.
